Outline Programme
More detail is now available about the An Lanntair programme which covers the presentations and evening events and the kayaking programme.
Original Programme
Thursday 18 October
The gathering will open with an exhibition in An Lanntair focusing on the history of paddling to the remote islands off the Outer Hebrides. This will be followed by a presentation by the hosts of next year’s gathering in Wales, an illustrated talk from Douglas Wilcox and a storm paddling film festival - to which entries are invited with prizes for the best (including Berserker Beer from the Hebridean Brewery and Stornoway Malt whisky).
During the early part of the evening there will also be an opportunity to brush up on skills in the local pool.
Friday 19 October
The kayaking programme will make use of the varied coastline of Lewis and Harris to provide a range of trips and skills sessions, providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy and learn. There will be wide variety of local and national coaches who will be paddling with you.
The Gathering will reconvene in An Lanntair in the evening for two contrasting presentations: Hamish Gow on his historic first kayaking trip to St Kilda in 1962 as well as a presentation from Gordon Brown from Skyak Adventures and author of the highly successful book “Sea Kayak”.
Saturday 20 October
Practical sessions will run as on Friday, varied, as ever, to suit the conditions.
The formal gathering will end that evening with a ceilidh featuring local artists including Face the West, together with prose and poetry on the theme of the sea.
Saturday marks the formal end of the gathering however less formal trips will run on subsequent days.
The above programme is indicative only and may change. Updates and further details will be posted here.
