It might not have been windy enough for some but we had the season’s first taster of Storm Paddling yesterday with a SW funneling nicely up Loch Seaforth to give us a great ride and some good surfs up the loch… right until the final mile anyway!
Though it’s not far away there are still places available at the gathering… so if you’re interested have a look at the booking page and get in touch.
If travel is an issue we do have a limited number of kayaks available if it would help you out and likewise we can assist a small number of people who would prefer to bring they kayaks over on foot.
Four weeks from now the gathering will be in full swing! We have now finalised the evening programme in An Lanntair and more information about the kayaking has been added.
Over the next few days we will be adding details of the coaches and giving an idea of the sessions they will be running so check back soon!
Around a third of the places for the Gathering are now booked, for those thinking about whether to come along this podcast that Simon Willis recorded at last year’s event will give you an idea of what to expect… we can’t guarantee such good weather though!
For anyone who’s not visited us before we’ve added a page with some information on travelling to Lewis and finding somewhere to stay on the Islands.
As part of this year’s gathering we are running a competion with the aim of inspiring and encouraging paddlers to share their experiences and the many expressions of sea kayaking. Justine Curgenven will be judging the entries and we hope to show as many of these as we can on the Thursday night.
Films will be judged on their inspiration and interest (not technical merit) so send us your submissions!
Following the success of the 1st UK Storm Gathering on the Isle of Mull in October 2006. The second gathering is being hosted by Stornoway Canoe Club on the Isle of Lewis from 18-20 October 2006.
